Rapport

A relationship of unconscious mutual responsiveness that makes change work possible.

Rapport is not friendliness or charm; it is a state of mutual influence in which two nervous systems track each other. Rapport is the precondition for every other NLP technique: without it, suggestions are resisted and anchors don't install. The test of rapport is leading: small shifts in the practitioner are reflected back by the client.
