Leading

After pacing successfully, gently shifting your own state or behavior so the client follows you.

Leading is the second half of pacing-leading rapport. Once a client unconsciously matches your tempo and posture, small shifts in your behavior tend to be reflected back. Skilled leading lets a trainer move a stuck client out of a stuck state without overt instruction. The test of pacing is whether leading works: if not, more pacing is needed first.
