Parts

Distinct sub-personalities within a client that hold different intentions, often in conflict.

When a client says 'part of me wants X, but part of me wants Y', NLP takes the metaphor literally for the purpose of intervention. Parts work assumes each part has a positive intention for the whole and resolves conflict by helping the parts negotiate a shared higher outcome.
