How Perceptual Positions works

This NLP technique involves structured steps to change specific patterns of thinking, feeling, or behaving. Your trainer will guide you through a sequence of language patterns, mental imagery exercises, and awareness practices adapted to your specific situation.

History and origin

This technique was developed as part of the NLP modeling work in the 1970s and formalized into a teachable protocol.

What a session looks like

During the session, your trainer will assess your current situation, introduce the technique through structured steps, guide you through the core exercise, and then help you test the new response. Expect to spend 20 to 40 minutes on the technique itself, with additional time for setup and debrief.

Most sessions are 60 to 90 minutes. The technique itself usually takes 20 to 40 minutes, with the remaining time spent on assessment, testing, and between-session practice guidance. Your trainer should explain the process at the start and debrief at the end.
